Abstract
The research deals with the topic of measuring and analyzing the relationship between global warming and economic growth in Iraq for the period (1988-2018), as many recent studies have shown that there is an effect and a reciprocal relationship between climate change and economic growth that varies according to the nature of the economic system of each country. In light of that, this research came to examine this relationship. As it turns out that there is an effect of global warming on economic growth in Iraq, in contrast to what was expected from the fact that global warming exerts a negative impact on economic growth. The economic measurement was used by adopting the Autoregressive Vector Model (VAR) to measure and analyze the relationship between the research variables.
The research reached a number of conclusions, the most important of which is that there is no long-term equilibrium relationship between the variables of the research, and that the continued dependence on oil in the country and the absence of a real economic diversification policy, will contribute to exacerbating the problem of global warming in Iraq. As for the most prominent recommendations that came in the research, it is the need to increase attention to the issue of global warming, as it is the most common phenomenon in the Arab region in general and Iraq in particular.
