Abstract
This study aims to clarify the role of inventory management using the Kanban system in improving supply chain costs by regulating order quantities and achieving a balance between supply and demand across the various stages of the supply chain (procurement, storage, and distribution). To achieve the study’s objectives, an applied case study was conducted on Karmal Trading Company, operating in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, as a real-world example through which the impact of the Kanban system in an actual operational environment can be evaluated. The study was based on the main hypothesis that implementing the Kanban system contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the supply chain by reducing inventory levels and the associated costs. The study utilized actual data from the company covering a 12-month period and analyzed quantitative indicators, including inventory turnover rate, holding period, and total costs, with the aim of evaluating performance before the system’s implementation and comparing it with the expected outcomes after implementation. The study reached several conclusions, most notably that the application of the Kanban system contributed to improving material availability, reducing inventory accumulation, and lowering storage-related costs, which positively impacted overall supply chain efficiency. Furthermore, the study presented a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: the need to develop an integrated inventory management system based on continuous analysis of actual demand, the adoption of digital technologies to accurately monitor inventory movements, and the training of personnel on planning and control concepts to enhance effectiveness in supply chain management.
