The Impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on Stock Price Indices in a Selection of Arab Countries

Abstract
The research aims to measure the quantitative impact of technological development indicators on the efficiency and performance of stock price indices in a selected group of Arab stock exchanges. In particular, the research seeks to determine the extent to which digital and technological transformation has contributed to explaining price changes in these markets over the past decade.
The analysis focuses on a selected sample of Arab countries, including (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan) during the period from 2012 to 2022. The study methodology relies on the use of fixed tablet data to achieve its objectives. To achieve this goal, the researchers used three different models: the composite model (OLS), the (fixed effects) model, and the (random effects) model. The fixed effects model was chosen as the most appropriate and optimal model.
The results indicate no significant impact of mobile and fixed-line subscriptions on the stock price index, while fixed and mobile broadband subscriptions showed a significant positive impact. A 1% increase in fixed subscriptions increases the index by 0.1471%, and mobile phone subscriptions increase by 0.1322%. This reflects the important role that Internet services play in supporting the performance of financial markets compared to traditional means.
