Environmental Taxes and Their Impact on the Transportation Sector in Iraq: Between Theory and Practice

Abstract
this research sheds light on environmental taxes and demonstrates their impact on the transport sector in Iraq, by combining a theoretical framework with applied analysis, while benefiting from some international experiences in this field. The results reveal a statistically significant impact of the environmental tax variable and its dimensions on the transport sector variable, through contributing to rationalizing fuel consumption, encouraging the use of less polluting means of transport, and supporting the trend towards developing public transportation. The research concluded that adopting a well-studied environmental tax policy can represent an effective tool for reforming the transport sector in Iraq and supporting the goals of sustainable development, provided that the country considers the economic and social specificity of the local environment and enhances community awareness of its importance.
