Abstract

This research aims to present the conceptual framework for its variables—specifically profitability based on cash flow components in accordance with IAS 7 requirements—and to clarify the conditions and rules for assessing the "going concern" assumption under IAS 1. It seeks to measure profitability indicators within the study sample, identify differences among them, evaluate the adequacy of their profitability, and forecast the continuity of their operations as required by IAS 1. Adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, the study selected a sample of five banks listed on the Iraqi market over a five-year period (2021–2025); it measured profitability indicators based on cash flow components and subsequently examined and evaluated the banks' continuity in compliance with IAS 1. The research concluded that the discrepancy between profits recognized on an accrual basis (in the income statement) and cash flows reported on a cash basis (in the statement of cash flows) creates a distinct gap, manifesting as a deficit or shortfall in operating cash flows. Consequently, the research recommends mandating that economic entities implement a dual measurement model that links profitability adequacy with cash flow efficiency.
